Andrew Brooksbank

Mr Andrew Brooksbank is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who works at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Ross Hall Hospital, where he specialises in shoulder surgery. This gives him a wide exposure to all aspects of shoulder pathology, from dealing with fractures and rotator cuff injuries to instability and arthritis of the shoulder. Andrew receives tertiary referrals from other surgeons across Scotland for management of complex shoulder problems.

He undertook specialist Fellowship training in shoulder surgery in Christchurch, New Zealand, and Exeter, UK. In New Zealand he had the opportunity to work alongside surgeons treating professional athletes on a regular basis, gaining expertise in complex arthroscopic shoulder reconstructions. In Exeter he worked with one of Britain’s leading shoulder surgeons with areas of interest in frozen shoulder, rotator cuff repair and shoulder replacement surgery.

His main areas of interest are traumatic shoulder injuries and their complex reconstruction utilising arthroscopic surgery, treating both contact and overhead professional athletes.

Andrew is involved in the education of physiotherapists and healthcare professionals with an interest in sports injuries. He also lectures to Masters and undergraduate students at Glasgow University’s Department of Sports Medicine.

He receives referrals for patients with the need for complex shoulder replacement surgery. He now utilises CT based planning to help plan the operation to match the patient’s anatomy. Mr Brooksbank also has a key role in the education of young surgeons in training, as well as being mentor to Fellows who have worked with him for specialist training in shoulder surgery.
