Speaker Bio

Niel Kang

I am a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow surgeon based in Cambridge University Hospitals NHS, since 2013 and enjoy performing shoulder and elbow arthroplasty and trauma surgery in high volume. I am a devout educationalist, starting out as director of education for the East of England training rotation, evolving to affiliate assistant professor at Cambridge University and currently in a role with the British Orthopaedic Association on the education & careers committee. I have been fortunate to be faculty on various national and international courses, cadaveric, face to face and online for both trauma and elective surgery, catering for a wide range of delegates from medical students, higher specialist trainees, through to senior fellows and consultant peers. Educational highlights include being Trainer of The Year in both the East of England and Pott rotations.

In 2017 I used the BESS fellowship to visit Dr Mark Frankle, designer surgeon of the DJO implant, to develop my understanding of arthroplasty and its applications and have been stimulated to give back and pay it forwards to the membership. I enjoy innovation and quality assurance, which is fulfilled as a founding member of the Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel and Beyond Compliance for Shoulder and Elbow arthroplasty, working shoulder to shoulder with industry in order to help provide patients with optimal outcomes and inform and assist colleagues with selecting the highest performing implants.#Decisions&Incisions
