Her research interests include advanced breast imaging techniques such as Contrast Enhanced Mammography, abbreviated MRI and radiomics. She is also interested in addressing inequalities in access to breast screening and imaging services, and ensuring that all women can access appropriate information to support informed decision making.
CESAR: Contrast Enhanced mammography versus magnetic reSonance imaging for Assessing Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy
This is a NIHR efficacy and evaluation (EME) funded multicentre study, currently in set-up. We are seeking to assess whether Contrast Enhanced Mammography (CEM) is non-inferior to the current gold-standard imaging technique, MRI for assessing the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer patients. All participants will be imaged with both techniques before and after chemotherapy to allow direct comparison. Imaging results will be compared with pathological findings to assess accuracy. We will be opening to recruitment in early 2025 initially opening at four sites - Dundee, Glasgow, Gateshead and Cheltenham with funding available for up to 10 sites.
The joint lead applicants are Dr Sarah Savaridas, Senior Clinical Lecturer (University of Dundee) and Honorary Consultant Breast Radiologist (NHS Tayside) with Dr Sarah Vinnicombe, Consultant Breast Radiologist (Cheltenham). The University of Dundee and NHS Tayside are joint sponsors and will be leading the trial. The other co-applicants are Prof. Janet Dunn and Dr Andrea Marshall (Warwick CTU), Dr Ian MacPherson (Oncologist, Glasgow), Prof Abeer Shaaban (Pathologist, Birmingham), Mr Kenneth Elder (breast surgeon, Edinburgh.
