BSCI Accreditation

Accreditation for Cardiac CT

Welcome to the BSCI on-line accreditation application system.

The BSCI/BSCCT organises accreditation for cardiac CT including level 1 (basic), level 2 (independent practitioner), and level 3 (advanced).

The BSCI/BSCCT Accreditation process has once again been updated. Several grey areas were identified during application reviews over the last year and this generated significant discussion and email traffic between applicants, the Accreditation Committee and the BSCI/BSCCT Secretariat.

Please read the application criteria before applying on-line. These can be found via the tabs at the top of this page.

Please note applications by email or post will no longer be accepted.

Please make sure before you apply to check that you meet the criteria for the level of accreditation you are applying for. Should you have to withdraw your application for any reason, including not meeting the criteria in full, then you will be issued a refund less an administration fee of £35.

Accreditation lasts for 3 years after which you will need to apply for re-accreditation. The re-accreditation process is the same as the initial application process in that you will need to provide case reports, evidence of CPD etc. You will need to ensure you read the requirements for the level you are applying for at re-accreditation. Please follow the appropriate tab at the top of this page for the requirements and links to the on-line application process.

Level 1 Accreditation

Application for BSCI/BSCCT Accreditation in Cardiac CT Level 1 (Basic).

Applicants must either have had training at a hospital that provides exposure to the required number of cases or attended a dedicated Level 1 course delivered by trainers accredited to at least BSCI/SCCT Level 2 standard. In both circumstances, applicants must demonstrate 8 hours of CPD in cardiac CT.

Level 2 Accreditation

Applications for Level 2 Accreditation are split into two groups, according to whether the applicant is applying to the BSCI/BSCCT for the first time or re-accrediting:

Those applying for their first Level 2 Accreditation should use the ‘Application for BSCI/BSCCT Accreditation in Cardiac CT’ Level 2 (Initial).

Those applying to re-accredit at Level 2 should use the Application for BSCI/BSCCT Accreditation in Cardiac CT Level 2 (Clinical Practitioner)'.

The purpose of the distinction is to reflect the fact that some applicants attend a cardiac CT training course, accredit at Level 2 but then subsequently choose not to pursue clinical practice in cardiac CT. The Clinical Practitioner label differentiates those applicants who demonstrate a continuing clinical commitment to cardiac CT beyond initial accreditation.

Level 3 Accreditation

The BSCI/BSCCT appreciates that individuals may be undertaking a more extended role in Cardiac CT, with regular, ongoing research, teaching and/or leadership activity. Level 3 is designed as a badge to reflect this where such additional contributions to the Cardiac CT community are substantial. If this applies to you, this may be recognized through application for Level 3 accreditation. Evidence provided must relate to activity undertaken since the time of your last accreditation.

Applicants will typically (i) have existing Level 2 BSCI/BSCCT accreditation; (ii) be practicing clinical cardiac CT routinely and (iii) be approaching the end of their accreditation period.
