Dr Elena Provenzano is Lead Breast Histopathologist for Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, UK, since 2014 and has a joint clinical and research role. Her main research interests are the assessment of tumour response to neoadjuvant therapy and molecular biology of breast cancer, and she is pathology lead for several breast cancer clinical trials including PARTNER, PIONEER and PRIMETIME. Dr Provenzano is Deputy lead for the PATHLAKE plus project that secure funding for the implementation of digital pathology at Addenbrookes, and Principal Investigator for the DEBORAH study examining efficiency gains in reporting of breast core biopsies from deployment of an AI algorithm across the NHS, and Cambridge lead for an AZ study evaluating an AI algorithm for scoring HER2 with a particular emphasis on HER2 low.
Elena was co-lead author for the ICCR post neoadjuvant breast cancer reporting minimum dataset. She is regional Pathology Professional Clinical Advisor for the NHS Breast Screening Programme in the East of England overseeing Quality Assurance in breast cancer diagnosis and is a member of the UK National Coordinating Committee for Breast Pathology, a council member of the Association of Breast Pathology and the AJCC Breast TNM committee. Elena has recently become Deputy for the UK Breast Histopathology Quality Assurance Programme.
