Launching Our CEM Service: Experience and Lessons Learned
In this presentation, we will describe the implementation of a Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM) service at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
We will outline the key steps from developing the business case to launching a clinically sustainable service. This included preparing governance documentation, defining clinical protocols and indications, and ensuring compliance with safety and contrast administration standards.
A major focus will be on team engagement and training. Successful implementation required close collaboration with radiographers, clinicians, and administrative staff to embed CEM within existing workflows.
We will conclude by sharing early lessons learned and practical recommendations for centres planning to introduce CEM, highlighting strategies that enabled a smooth, safe, and workflow-aligned service launch.
Applying and Supporting Colleagues Through the Portfolio Pathway [previous CESR]
This presentation will provide a practical overview of the Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) for entry onto the UK Specialist Register in Clinical Radiology. It will outline the key stages of the process, emphasis will be placed on the structured collection of documentation across clinical competencies, audit, teaching, leadership, and governance. The importance of protected time, supervision, and departmental support in achieving a successful outcome will be highlighted, together with practical strategies to help applicants identify and address evidence gaps.
The session will also examine the wider workforce implications of the Portfolio Pathway, recognising its crucial role in supporting experienced doctors to enter the specialist register and helping address consultant workforce shortages while maintaining high professional standards.
