Prof Chris Vernazza

Chris is the Head of School and Professor of Oral Health Services at the School of Dental Sciences, Newcastle University. His main research interest is the application of health economics in oral health, an area in which he has published extensively and secured extensive funding. Chris has extensive experience of working at the interface of oral health policy and research and has undertaken projects for diverse organisations including NHS England, the World Dental Federation and commercial partners.

Chris currently practises as a consultant in paediatric dentistry at Newcastle Dental Hospital and has teaching responsibilities across oral health undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Newcastle University. He is society editor for the International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry, honorary editor and an executive committee member of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry, trustee of the Alliance for a Cavity Free Future and trustee of the Oral and Dental Research Trust. 


Title: Can we fix NHS dentistry and can health economics help?

By the end of the session participants will be able to:
 - Describe some of the reasons for the current crisis in NHS dentistry
 - Understand some of the potential solutions taking a health economic perspective
