Bio
I am a clinical psychologist by training and worked for 30 years in the NHS, mainly with people with physical health problems and their families in acute hospital settings. I am former Director of the University of Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology Training and am currently leading a longitudinal study of leadership based in the NHS based at the University of Edinburgh. Iām also Visiting Professor in Clinical Psychology at University College London.
I served as the 2019-2020 President of the BPS, during my presidential year I established the BPS Presidential Taskforce on Diversity and Inclusion. I also chair the BPS Covid-19 Coordinating group and co-lead the workstreams on staff wellbeing and recovery from severe coronavirus.

Pandemic ā what we did, how we did it, and what lessons we can learn for the
future.
Abstract
In this session I will talk about the how psychologists came together to meet the challenge of the Coronavirus pandemic, both within BPS, via the BPS Covid-19 Coordinating group and its eight workstreams, and also across the globe via the Global Psychology Alliance.
I will outline some of the principles of effective teamworking that the BPS Covid Coordinating group explicitly adopted and some of the outcomes of the work.
Finally, I will share reflections from the coordinating group, and also my personal reflections, on lessons that can be learned from this work to enhance the effectiveness of work within the Society in the future.
