Title
Better to ask forgiveness than seek permission: Reflections on navigating a career in OP
Abstract
Given the global pandemic and impending global recession, it’s a challenging time for anyone intent on a career within organisational psychology (OP). OP is often viewed as a ‘luxury service’ especially when there are significant pressures on cost reduction and spending reviews in all sectors.
To navigate your career within this context you must be prepared and focused. Now more than ever OP has so much to offer, and I will share ideas about where these opportunities lie. Despite the challenges, I believe there are many reasons to be optimistic.
In my talk I reflect on my career choices when I was starting my career in OP in the early 1990s, when the world of work was looking equally challenging.
I plan to share with you the choices I’ve made, both the successes and mistakes on route, and most importantly, what I’ve learned thus far.
I look forward to the conversation.
