Antonio M. Foruria, MD, PhD, is Head of the Shoulder and Elbow Reconstructive Surgery Unit at Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital (Quirón Salud, Madrid, Spain) and Associate Professor of Orthopedics, Anatomy, and Biomechanics at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He trained in orthopedic surgery at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid and successfully completed the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE), obtaining ECFMG certification before moving to the United States for advanced training in 2009.
He subsequently completed a formal clinical fellowship in Upper Extremity Adult Reconstruction at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, under the mentorship of Drs. Bernard Morrey, Shawn O’Driscoll, Joaquin Sánchez-Sotelo, and John Sperling.
Since 2010, Dr. Foruria’s clinical practice has been dedicated to complex elbow pathology, including fracture-dislocations, tendon and nerve conditions, advanced osteoarthritis, instability, and elbow arthroplasty.
His research focuses on proximal humeral and elbow fractures, fracture-dislocations, forearm biomechanics, and elbow arthroplasty. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed international publications, most indexed in PubMed, 15 international book chapters, and more than 80 national and international congress contributions. He also has served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and as a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
In addition, Dr. Foruria has broad experience as faculty in national and international educational programs, including SECEC, SECHC, AOTrauma, and EBOT examinations. His career combines expertise in complex elbow reconstruction with a strong commitment to advancing knowledge and surgical education.
