Breast Cancer Nurses Representative

Claire MSc, BSc, NMP, RGN is Macmillan Consultant Nurse, Metastatic Breast Cancer at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, Kent Oncology Centre. She has been a registered nurse for 32 years, and has worked in Breast Oncology for 26 years. She gained her general nurse training from University College London Hospital in 1991, and completed her cancer nursing training at The Royal Marsden Hospital. She developed the Oncology Clinical Trials Unit in 1996, and was the Lead Research Nurse for West Kent for over 17 years. Her focus was within the portfolio of clinical trials for breast cancer, and during her research career recruited over 4000 patients into clinical trials. Claire was appointed to the new role of Macmillan Consultant Nurse Metastatic Breast Cancer in 2014, to develop modern and innovative services in West Kent for those living with the diagnosis. Successful service developments and best practice have been shared with the growing national community of nurses within this specialty. Claire lectures widely at national and international conferences, chairs national meetings, sits on expert management groups, Department of Health and pharmaceutical advisory groups, and frequently acts in a consultative role to national charities Breast Cancer Now and Macmillan. She has written modules for European Oncology Nursing Society Advanced Breast Cancer on line course, which has been translated into multiple languages for the European nursing community. Claire is an Honorary Lecturer at Canterbury Christchurch University. She also provides mentorship and coaching for nurses who have been appointed to the small, but growing community of nurses with dedicated roles within this specialty.Claire contributes to the development and delivery of Breast cancer Now and Macmillan’s information services. She has delivered many health care professional and patient webinars for Breast Cancer Now services on treatment for metastatic breast cancer, and reviews the patient literature for Macmillan and Breast Cancer Now. Claire was appointed as a Trustee for Breast Cancer Now in 2021.Claire has published articles in peer review journals, and book chapters.
