Jo has worked at Lancaster University for 30 years in a wide range of commercial, research and marketing roles and this has helped him to get under the skin of the widest possible elements of HE life - this has really helped to understand the range of challenges and solutions that we need to address to make campuses flourish.
He values the ability to beg, borrow and steal ideas from others via CUBO, but also to meet people who can challenge his view of the world.
Jo got involved in the CUBO Board as he could see an organisation that wanted to lead and help set the agenda for commercial services in the University sector.
Title: Why do we do conferences? A commercial perspective.
Before working for CUBO, Sarah worked at the University of Birmingham for 13 years, progressing to the role of Sales and Revenue Manager in Conferencing and Events.
Title: Why do we do conferences? A commercial perspective.
University conferencing teams find themselves in a unique position. There is an expectation to drive revenue for the institution, while being mindful that the commercial business they win must also fit around the education of students. Recent CUBO benchmarking data has given some insight into income generated on campus through conferencing and how the traditional business model of ‘sweating the assets’ is changing.
Join CUBO Board Director Jo Hardman, Director of Commercial Services, Lancaster University to discuss the purpose of conferencing in the HE sector, and how conference and events teams can best position themselves to compete in their institutions as well as in the external commercial marketplace.
