Amtul Carmichael

Professor Amtul Razzaq Carmichael is a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon with extensive experience in breast cancer surgery, oncoplastic reconstruction and multidisciplinary breast cancer care. She is Professor of Surgery and has a strong academic and research portfolio, with particular interests in innovative breast cancer surgery, localisation technologies, oncoplastic reconstruction and improving patient outcomes.

She is actively involved in national and international research and has presented her work at major breast and surgical meetings. She is Principal Investigator of the HORIZON Study, a multi-centre mixed-methods research study exploring the use of wireless breast localisation technologies in breast-conserving surgery. The study brings together patient and clinician perspectives across multiple UK centres, with the aim of understanding current practice, identifying barriers and facilitators, and informing future implementation of localisation technologies to improve patient care and surgical outcomes.
