Since 1999 she is an active researcher in multimodality breast radiology, with a special interest in contrast imaging (MRI and CEM) and minimally invasive procedures. Dr Camps-Herrero is an active speaker in Latin America and Europe, where she has been invited to lecture in more than 400 presentations. She was appointed Breast Section Editor for EURORAD during 2007-2019 and has held various scientific positions, among others: Chairman of the ECR 2012 Breast Subcommittee, Chairman of the Spanish Senology Congress in 2015, and member of the Programme Planning Committee for ECR 2015, 2016 and 2022. Title: Surveillance and CEM

Women with a personal history of breast cancer (PHBC) are at increased risk of either a local recurrence or a new primary breast cancer. International guidelines recommend annual mammography as the only surveillance technique (ASCO, NCCN, ESMO) but a mammogram is less sensitive in the post-surgical due to post-treatment changes (fat necrosis, surgical scars). Furthermore, the sensitivity of mammography for the detection of breast cancer is lower in patients with a PHBC than with patients without a history of breast cancer (sensitivity of 65.4% in the former and sensitivity of 76.5% in the latter group) and it is lower during the first five years after treatment than later (sensitivity of 60.2% during the first five years and of 70.8% after five years). These facts (very low sensitivity for recurrence and even less during the first five years when the most aggressive cancers recur) make mammography a substandard technique in these patients Morphologic imaging techniques (mammography, US, DBT) appear to be incapable of preventing underdiagnosis of relevant cancers in PHBC. Functional imaging modalities (MRI, contrast-enhanced mammography) are not limited by scar tissue or breast tissue density and thus show increased cancer detection and decreased interval cancer rates compared to morphological techniques.
