ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2021

16 - 17 JULY 2021, VIRTUAL CONFERENCE

Professor David Uzzell, BA, MSc, PhD, FBPsS, CPsychol

David Uzzell, PhD is Professor Emeritus of Environmental Psychology in the School of Psychology, University of Surrey, and Visiting Professor in the People-Environment Research Group, Departmento de Psicoloxia, Universidade da Coruña, Spain. His principal research interests focus on critical psychological approaches to changing consumption and production practices in the context of climate change; the design and evaluation of space and place in the city; and cultural heritage and place identity. David was the first psychologist in the UK to give a paper on psychology and climate change, arguing that behaviour change will require more than economic levers, as was being promoted at the time. He was invited to speak on psychology and climate change at the APA Annual Psychology Day at the United Nations, and in 2010 gave the British Academy/British Psychological Society Annual Lecture on ‘Psychology and Climate Change’ at the Royal Society, London. In 2017, he was Invited to make a presentation to the Commission for the Study of Climate Change of the Congress of Deputies of the Spanish Parliament. His most recent research has involved establishing the field of Environmental Labour Studies which investigates nature, climate change and work. This seeks to focus on the contribution to and effect of climate change mitigation strategies on workforces. He was the co-author of the first collection of readings on this subject which began to define the field.
