Title
Promoting Psychological and Physical Wellbeing in Older People during COVID-19
Abstract
The long-lasting psychological and physical implications of Covid-19 on older people and the risk of associated de-conditioning is a major cause of concern for service providers. Loneliness, disruption to routines, lack of social contact with friends and families, reduced exercise, and access to care services has had a significant impact on mood and wellbeing.
In this session we will explore innovative interventions by the NHSCT and Age NI to promote the physical and psychological wellbeing of carers, older people living at home and in care homes during lockdown restrictions. It will cover the psychological impact of loneliness, research on the lived experience plus the challenges of reaching older people who are not online. It will consider the impact and scalability of CLEAR Dementia Care © and Age NI Good Vibrations to help people shielding at home to maintain their connections, mobility and wellbeing.
