Paula is a qualified youth worker and has worked in Children’s Services for over 30 years. She has worked in various roles within the voluntary and statutory sectors, including community development, youth work, family support, extended services, within secure units and more recently as a trauma practitioner. Paula joined Barnardo's in 2012 with a remit of looking at prevention work around child sexual exploitation in schools and other universal settings. She has been the lead in the development of the Real Love Rocks project, which was originally launched in 2014 and has recently been rewritten and expanded to cover wider themes such as Child Criminal Exploitation, Child Sexual Abuse and Radicalisation. She is passionate about prevention, early intervention, safeguarding, and working to promote the voices and rights of children and young people, which has been at the heart of the Real Love Rocks project, as it has been developed by children and young people for children and young people to provide inclusive educational resources.
The resources support the delivery of PSHE in schools and provides training to help build capacity for teachers and practitioners to gain confidence in delivering the programme. Paula is currently studying for her MA in Community Development and Youth Work Leadership and Practice, with a particular interest on the impact that informal education has on children and young people.
