Sarah is currently working as a senior research associate with Professor Anita Franklin’s team at Portsmouth shortly moving to Manchester Metropolitan University looking at modern slavery and the needs of children with SEND. She is a qualified social worker who has worked for many years as a children’s social worker in several local authorities and at ChildLine. She was until recently the national Safeguarding Disabled Children Manager at the Ann Craft Trust working all over England and Wales where she developed training in safeguarding disabled children and young people especially those at risk of sexual abuse and exploitation, work with parents with learning disabilities and training for changing practice to support children and their families. She co-chairs the National Working Group on Safeguarding Disabled Children which seeks to raise awareness, change practice and improve the safety and wellbeing of disabled children and their families. She is a member of BASW.
