Angela DeMichele

Dr DeMichele is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania where she holds the Mariann T. and Robert J. MacDonald Chair in Breast Cancer Research. Dr DeMichele completed her M.D. at the Washington University School of Medicine and MSCE at The University of Pennsylvania, where she also trained in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology before joining the faculty.  She has co-led the Breast Cancer Research Program in the Abramson Cancer Center since 2005 (which is rated Exceptional by the NCI)  and serves as the inaugural Director of Clinical/Translational Research in Solid Oncology in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania.  

Dr DeMichele's research focuses on breast cancer drug development and biomarker-driven clinical trials as well as the detection and treatment minimal residual disease. She is the co-Director of Penn's 2-PREVENT Breast Cancer Translational Center of Excellence, leading a multidisciplinary group of investigators focused on preventing breast cancer recurrence through studies focused on the detection and eradication of dormant and reactivating molecular residual disease after primary breast cancer treatment. Nationally, she serves as the Chair of the Breast Cancer Committee in the ECOG/ACRIN Cooperative Group, is a Co-PI on the I-SPY Trial, a member of the St. Gallen Early Breast Cancer Consensus Panel and has served on numerous ASCO Committees including as Scientific Program Chair in 2024. She has received funding from the NIH, DOD, BCRF, Komen and other foundations and her work has been recognized with the 2022 Potamkin Prize for Breast Cancer Research from the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the 2023 Gianni Bonadonna Breast Cancer Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology.  


Implementation of AI in screening

This presentation will review the latest data on biology, detection, and treatment of dormant and reactivated minimal residual disease after breast cancer treatment, with a focus on novel trial designs and new therapeutic approaches targeting dormancy to prevent recurrent disease.
