Cardiff University School of Pharmacology & Pharmaceutical Sciences
Dr. Julia Gee is a Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Following a BSc. in Physiological Sciences at Newcastle University, she joined the University of Wales where she received her PhD examining anti-oestrogen impact on the normal breast and undertook postdoctoral breast cancer research positions in the Tenovus research group. She then joined Cardiff University’s School of Pharmacy as the research co-ordinator for the Tenovus Centre for Cancer Research and undertook a Breast Cancer Now Fellowship prior to being appointed as a Senior Lecturer in the School. Julia has more than 35 years’ research experience that has focused on mechanisms of treatment response and failure in breast cancer, examining clinical samples (including conducting translational studies for several new agent trials in collaboration with clinical colleagues) and also treatment-resistant breast cancer cell models established by her group. Julia has over 150 publications in the field, and her special interests lie in the areas of anti-hormone induced signalling and novel target and biomarker discovery, also most recently exploring photo-dynamic therapy sensitivity of different breast cancer subtypes. Along with her research achievements, she has been a key player in helping establish the School’s successful MSc. in Cancer Biology and Therapeutics teaching programme. As a long-standing member, Julia represents the British Breast Group on the UKIBCS organising committee.
