Carla is a Clinical Trial Manager / Research Associate at the Sheffield Clinical Trials Research Unit based at the University of Sheffield. With eight years’ experience managing clinical trials, she is enthusiastic about translating research evidence into routine care, with a particular focus on behaviour change and implementation science to improve the delivery and sustainability of healthcare services.
She currently manages the DENIM Trial (Delivering Effective Non-Invasive ventilation in Motor Neurone Disease, NIHR158715), a hybrid type three implementation trial using a stepped-wedge cluster randomised design. DENIM is testing an implementation strategy to embed service changes that enhance how people with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) are supported to use their non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
Carla’s research experience spans a range of clinical areas. She has managed a pragmatic surgical trial (NIHR HTA 131861) evaluating a new haemorrhoid treatment and a national quality improvement and implementation programme funded by NHS England to transform Cystic Fibrosis (CF) care through digital and behaviour change interventions (CFHealthHub).
Before joining CTRU, she worked as a Research Assistant at Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, delivering NIHR Portfolio studies across adult mental health services.
Her research interests centre on implementation science, quality improvement, and behaviour change to enable evidence-based innovations to become embedded in everyday clinical practice.
