Laura Hull completed her PhD at University College London (UCL), focusing on the conceptualisation and measurement of camouflaging in autism.

Laura’s research addresses issues which are clinically relevant in autism, including masking, gender, adult diagnosis and mental health.

She is currently the study manager for a research project evaluating adult autism diagnostic assessment, based at UCL and the East London NHS Foundation Trust.

Charli Babb

'Autism and Eating Disorders: Implications for Services'

Charli is a final Year PhD student at Cardiff University. She is supervised by Prof. John Fox and Dr. Catherine Jones.

This is part of a larger project called SEDAF (Study of Eating Disorders in Autistic Females) in collaboration with researchers at University College London.

Ms. Janina Brede

'Autistic women’s experience of Anorexia Nervosa - potential causing and maintaining factors'

Janina is a final Year PhD student at University College London, where she is supervised by Will Mandy and Lucy Serpell.

Her PhD looks at autism specific factors that might give rise to and maintain restrictive eating disorders, particularly anorexia nervosa, in autistic women. This is part of a larger project called SEDAF (Study of Eating Disorders in Autistic Females) in collaboration with researchers at Cardiff University.

Mr. Ben Robinson

'Males get eating disorders too'

Ben was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa at the age of 15 and he will talk about how his eating disorder developed, leading him to be hospitalised on a general hospital ward, before being detained under the mental health act and receiving treatment in an inpatient unit for over a year, before transitioning into CAMHS outpatient treatment. Ben will speak about the difficulties he faced during this period of time and what did/didn’t help him and how he decided to take the road to recovery and what challenges he faced through that.

Ten years on, Ben now has his own company which he set up to raise awareness around mental health but also to eradicate the stigma that men are susceptible to eating disorders too and it’s ok not to be ok.

Ben completes talks/conferences at schools, colleges and universities to students and staff and also delivers these sessions to businesses. Ben also runs parents/carers support groups with the North West Community Eating Disorder service as well as sits on panels for research groups as an advisor’.
