Professor Laurence Moore MSc PhD FAcSS FFPH - University of Glasgow

Professor Moore is Director of the Medical Research Council/Chief Scientist Office Social and Public Health Sciences Unit in the University of Glasgow and was the founding Director of DECIPHer, a UKCRC Public Health Research Centre of Excellence.  He has a track record in the development and evaluation of interventions to improve public health, conducted in collaboration with policy makers, practitioners and the public to maximise impact on policy and practice.  These include school based interventions on smoking prevention, diet and sexual health; family based interventions on the prevention of drug and alcohol use; and social and community based interventions to increase physical activity and encourage sustained weight loss. He is a leading expert in the interdisciplinary evaluation of complex interventions and is increasingly interested in the application of complex systems concepts and methods to population health intervention research.  He was a member of the National Prevention Research Initiative Scientific Committee, the NIHR Public Health Research Programme Research Funding Board, the MRC/NIHR Methodology Research Programme Panel and the MRC Population Health Strategy Group.  Laurence has been PI or Co-Investigator on Research Unit, Centre and capacity building grants totalling c.£60M and Research project grants totalling c.£27M.

Professor Viola Vaccarino - Emory University

Viola Vaccarino, M.D., Ph.D., is the Wilton Looney Chair of Cardiovascular Research and Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University. She holds a joint appointment at the Emory School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology. Dr. Vaccarino received an M.D. from the University of Milan, Italy, and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from Yale University. Between 1995 and 2000 she was on the faculty at the Yale School of Public Health. In 2000, she joined the Emory faculty in the School of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, and between 2010 and 2018 she served as the Chair of the Department of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University.

Dr. Vaccarino research interests lay in cardiovascular epidemiology and prevention with emphasis on social and behavioral determinants of cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular health inequalities and women’s health. A focus of her research is mind-body relationships centering on the role of psychological stress and mental health factors on cardiovascular risk, especially among women. Dr. Vaccarino has published over 360 research publications, has an extensive record of research funding from the National Institutes of Health, and is highly engaged in the training and mentoring of the next generation of investigators in these areas.

Professor Omer Van den Bergh - University of Leuven 

Omer Van den Bergh studied clinical psychology and obtained a Ph.D. in experimental psychology at the University of Leuven, Belgium. 

He followed a postdoc training at the NIMH Center for the Study of Attention and Emotion (Prof. P.J. Lang, U. Florida) and a postgraduate training in cognitive behavior therapy. He is supervisor of the Flemish Association for Behavior Therapy. He taught health psychology at the University of Leuven to students of psychology, medicine and physical education, was associate editor of “Biological Psychology” between 1999 and 2015, and former president of the International Society for the Advancement of Respiratory Psychophysiology (ISARP). He was director of the Research Group on Health Psychology at the University of Leuven from 1998 till 2015. He is emeritus professor since October 2018, the year in which he obtained an ISBM Life Time Achievement Award. 

His research focuses on the psychology of aversive somatic experiences with a specific interest in self-reported health, symptom perception, stress and respiratory psychophysiology. His research mainly involves laboratory experiments targeting to understand mechanistic processes in these areas.
