Focus for talk and workshop sessions

We put out a call for contributions to the MFL community and from the extraordinary number of contributions received we have created a varied and exciting programme around our theme of A rich curriculum for ALL. We focused specifically on contributions for talks and workshops which focused on the following areas with precedence being given to new and topical submissions:

  • Convince school leaders and the wider community of the importance of languages in a post-Brexit world
  • Promote the importance of extra-curricular activities and trips to pupils and Senior Leadership
  • Promote languages across the curriculum including motivating learners to continue beyond GCSE
  • Celebrate bilingual learners in schools and the teaching and accreditation of community languages
  • Lead effective languages provision in primary and secondary schools
  • Use technology to enhance language teaching and learning
  • Use schemes of work to make the most of curriculum time
  • Plan for progression and transition: KS2-3, KS3-4, KS4-5, KS5-HE
  • Focus on skills of the linguist e.g. translation, phonetic awareness, memorisation
  • Share intercultural understanding through authentic texts, film and literature
  • Encourage a passion for grammar
  • Nurture language teachers at all stages of the profession
