Dr Anna Hurley-Wallace

Anna is a Senior Research Associate in Qualitative Health Research, and a Chartered Psychologist. She specialises in developing complex health interventions, including behaviour change interventions. Her research interests include chronic pain, adolescent health, psycho-oncology, and intervention development methodologies.

She completed her PhD in Psychology at the University of Southampton (2022), where she conducted qualitative and mixed methods research to develop multidisciplinary and non-pharmacological pain management interventions for young people. This work reflects her primary interest in musculoskeletal chronic pain, including hypermobility disorders. She has additionally worked with UK charities to engage young people with pain in her research.

Anna also has expertise in sleep interventions, with experience in clinical delivery and research evaluation of CBT for insomnia. She has previously collaborated on interdisciplinary and international research projects at the University of Southampton, including investigating the psychological factors underlying internet fraud, and the development of patient-facing measures for people with cancer in collaboration with the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC).

At the University of Bristol, Anna is based in the Musculoskeletal Research Unit (MRU). Her current research uses qualitative and co-design methods to develop non-pharmacological interventions to improve chronic musculoskeletal pain. This includes pre- and post-surgical programmes for people undergoing joint replacement, as well as pain management for people with hypermobility (HSD/hEDS).
