Christin Hoffman

Christin is a Research Fellow in Health Services Research and part of the NIHR Bristol Biomedical Research Centre (Surgical and Orthopaedic Innovation theme) and the Centre for Surgical research at the University of Bristol Medical School. 

Christin is a methodologist with expertise and interest in early phase research, professional behaviour change and doctor-patient communication within the context of surgery. Working within a larger team, she applies qualitative, quantitative and evidence synthesis methods to improve the safe and transparent introduction of surgical innovation which has informed NICE recommendations. She is also involved in innovative work that uses real-time monitoring and feedback of surgical patients’ experience of shared decision making that has significantly impacted health policy. 

Christin is passionate about patient and public involvement and engagement and has extensive experience designing tools and delivering activities to optimise PPIE and increase the relevance of health research. She co-leads PPIE within the NIHR BRC Surgical and Orthopaedic Innovation theme, where she has responsibilities to support conduct and evaluation of the team’s PPIE activities. 

She completed her PhD in Medical Studies at the University of Exeter (2018), where she undertook multi-methods research to advance theory-informed behaviour change interventions in transport. Christin subsequently worked at local authority where she translated findings from her doctoral studies to support activities aimed at promoting behaviour change towards healthy travel choices. 

Christin is also one of six core members of the Health Psychology and Interventions Group who collaborative lead a multi-disciplinary network that brings together academics, health and care professionals, industry and policy representatives with an interest in behaviour change and health psychology to share knowledge, expertise and foster collaborations.
