The organising committee for ICBM 2020 are planning the conference with the environment in mind. We have made a number of decisions to try and reduce our impact on the environment and some of these are detailed below:
Printing – We will not be printing a programme for the conference and have replaced this with an App
Plastic – we have removed plastic water bottles and replaced them with water fountains – please remember to bring your own water bottle for filling
Cotton – We will not be providing conference bags
Recycling – There will be recycling bins available at the conference
Transport – NEXTbike offering complimentary bike usage for delegates attending the conference (delegates will need to download the Nextbike app and register ahead of the conference)
Woodlands Trust – we are managing a charitable donation from delegates to support the brilliant work the woodlands trust are doing:
We are delighted to have partnered with the SEC Glasgow who have a similar ethos regarding the environment and just a few highlights of what they do are below:
For every conference held at the SEC, a grove of native trees is planted in the conference’s name as part of the Trees for Life programme. In 10 years, over 170,000 trees have been planted on behalf of conferences at the SEC.
When it comes to food and food waste, the SEC have worked very hard to challenge the norm a few examples of this are:
All coffee grounds are recycled into Biofuel
Home to over 100,000 bees providing honey for SEC Food recipes
Banned use of plastic straws
All disposable items are compostable
All our food is sustainably sourced resulting in low food mileage and one delivery per week
