To facilitate the development and
advancement of general practitioner veterinary educators based at Royal College
of Veterinary Surgeon (RCVS)-accredited institutions and promote the
integration of high-quality general practice teaching within the veterinary
curriculum.
Inspired by the Primary Care Veterinary
Educator (PCVE) community based in the United States, General Practice
Veterinary Educators (GPVE) aims to provide support for members navigating the
academic landscape and teaching according to RCVS educational requirements, as
well as increasing accessibility to veterinary educator events for general
practice educators based in RCVS-accredited institutions.

Promote excellence in general
practice teaching and encourage its integration throughout the veterinary
curriculum

Develop enthusiastic, skilled
primary care educators with the tools to produce veterinary surgeons ready for
careers in general practice

Support the retention,
engagement, wellbeing and advancement of primary care veterinary educators and
improve recognition of their role in delivering a balanced curriculum

Facilitate collaboration and
networking, between GPVE members within the broader veterinary educator
community, with the wider profession and beyond
The General Practice Veterinary Educators (GPVE) group are excited to be hosting a one-day symposium as part of the pre-conference activities at VetEd 2026. This dedicated symposium will focus delivering veterinary education in the context of general practice and is relevant to anyone educators working in general practice within a higher education setting. The symposium will have its own programme of plenaries, workshops and short communications break out discussions and panel discussions. The full programme to follow soon.
Delegates can choose to attend the GPVE symposium for the day only or can extend the day by including attendance at the VetEd fringe festival on the Wednesday evening. There is also the option to attend the main VetEd conference and include the GPVE symposium as an add-on.
