Fellows

BASES Fellowship is awarded to recognise esteemed professional achievement, skills, knowledge and service to BASES and the sport and exercise science community and encourages continued service to BASES in leadership and ambassadorial roles.

The following three members have been awarded Fellowship status.  They will be formally announced at the 2023 BASES Annual Conference dinner where they will be awarded their Fellowship certificate and pin badge.

Prof Lynne Boddy FBASES

Lynne is Professor of Physical Activity and Health, based within the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU). Lynne’s research focusses on investigating movement behaviours and how these influence health outcomes, particularly in children and young people. She also conducts research examining novel accelerometer metrics that may better capture movement behaviours. Lynne is involved in international programmes that promote physical activity in cities whilst targeting inequalities across the health and lifespan. She is a BASES accredited researcher and Chartered Scientist. Lynne is the Physical Activity Exchange Lead at LJMU which aims to bring together research, policy and practice that impacts physical activity, sedentary behaviour and health across the life-course.

Dr Andrew Mitchell FBASES

Andrew is an Associate Dean and Reader in Biomechanics at the University of Bedfordshire and prior to that he was the Head of School for Sport Science & Physical Activity. He is in his second term as Chair of the Division of Biomechanics & Motor Behaviour and previously served as Deputy Chair. He is Chair of the BASES Biomechanics Special Interest Group (BIG) and led the transition of the annual BIG event from in-person to online, which now averages over 150 registrations annually. Andrew serves on the BASES Board, chairs sessions at BASES Annual Conferences and annually reviews biomechanics abstracts for these events. He has multiple peer-reviewed publications, has presented his research across the world and is a Member of the Executive Committee of the International Ankle Consortium. Andrew has supervised 12 PhD students to completion and has examined numerous PGRs at institutions across the UK and Europe. His research focus is on the biomechanics of lower limb mechanisms of injury.

Dr Andrew Scott FBASES

Andrew is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth. He has supported BASES in raising its profile in clinical exercise science and practice as the former Chair of the BASES Clinical Exercise Science and Practice Special Interest Group and was most recently involved in the development of the Register of Clinical Exercise Physiologists through the Academy for Healthcare Science. He co-edited two textbooks in Clinical Exercise Science and Exercise Management for Referred Medical Conditions to support these professions. He serves the wider sport and exercise community as the BASES Director on the International Confederation of Sport and Exercise Science Practice, with the aim of developing international professional standards in sport and exercise to enhance professional standards, shared CPD access and the portability of credentials worldwide. .
